buggies
I can’t believe that I didn’t mention the buggies last night.
so there I am, leaving work with that happy with the day’s progress feeling and getting on my bike. I swat away a bug and start pedaling. I round the corner on the street and ride right through what seems to be a big thick cloud of bugs. swat! swat! swat! at this point I think I am through.
and then I realize...

off to work
our competition entry is set to be turned in this Friday so we are really working hard to get it ready to go. the days are long but the work is really fun. I have been drawing elevations and sections and even trying out Maxwell Renderer, which is badass.
today promises more of the same! we are doing rendered elevations so I think the morning will mostly be combining our renderings with the...

I discovered this wonder yesterday. hallelujah. it seems my prayers have been answered. don’t like something? just slather on some Nutella and bam! you are set.
my favorite is in crepes with strawberries but when i’m feeling lazy, a baguette, some nutella, & strawberries. the best.
heck yes! I am currently loving the Nutella and bread combo.

Vitra Museum
while we were driving back to Koln D and J mentioned that there was this great little stop that we could make and see a lot of neat architecture all in one place: the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. the Vitra company is the main producer of all the famous architecture chairs (and some other things but, really). the campus was an incredible mix of many different kinds of architecture. ...

croissants
I almost completely forgot about the delicious jam I had at MF’s house. it was quitten jam or maybe marmalade. but it was incredible.

not all play!
we stayed overnight in Langenthal, which is a small town in Switzerland near Basel. the neighborhood that MF lives in is very cool. almost all the buildings are older farm type structures that have been converted into apartments, houses and even some businesses. it was gorgeous. D and J and I walked around a bit on Friday morning to scope out the area. we saw this incredible Oriental barn (?)...

dinner on the river
we drove with MF in the car back towards his house in Langenthal. on the way back we stopped for dinner in Luzern. we walked by the Jean Nouvel concert hall, admired the incredible cantilever, and had some dinner. we ate at a beautiful little cafe right on the Reuss River and the lights were twinkling and reflecting.
after dinner MF walked us around old Luzern and showed us around a little. ...

rolling hills
I have heard the phrase “rolling hills” a lot. but I don’t think I really had an idea of what that meant until I was in Switzerland. I was transfixed looking out the window in the car. it was so green. shades of green I had never imagined before. what was even more incredibly amazing than the color was how high up houses were built into the mountains. you can’t get...

Liechtenstein in person
the main reason for our trip was a client meeting for D and J in Liechtenstein. while D, J and MF met with the client I got to walk around downtown Vaduz (the capital of Liechtenstein). I did some wiki-research on Liechtenstein and Vaduz so that I would be at least a little familiar with the area and also to get a map so I wouldn’t get lost in Vaduz. little did I know that getting lost...

driving
driving out on the road with D and J was an absolute blast. we played the radio and talked and had a lot of fun.
on the way to Liechtenstein we saw a bunch of giant windmills and as we got closer and closer to Vaduz we went through more and more of these very cool tunnels. I didn’t get a good photograph of them but they were very cool. J even told me this story about a butter truck that...

excuses:
I promise to write a lot about my incredible road trip to Liechtenstein and Switzerland with D and J.
I wasn’t able to use the internet hardly at all during our traveling
once we got back I am lucky enough to have a friend from the GT architecture program and his wife visiting me
they are traveling all over Europe for over fifty days and just stopping in Koln for a few. last night we...
"you have the internet in your bag?!"
seriously. I am typing this while we are in the car back to Koln. my mouth is gaping wide.
boy it is early
but it means I am leaving! have a wonderful two days if I don’t get a chance to blog.
I tucked in my shirt today
and I liked it! this one’s for you, Mom.

Liechtenstein
tomorrow I get to go to Liechtenstein with D and J. their work on a workshop which is hosting a variety of speakers in January (?) brings them there for a meeting so I get to tag along and explore the capitol city, Vaduz. I am very excited about this. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be able to visit all of these places while I am here! I thought that we wouldn’t have too much...

I am dying here! how do the ballerinas do it?!
I want to be a ballerina
I got to go to my very first ballet with J yesterday evening. we saw a very famous Swiss choreographer and the Zurich Ballet. they were fantastic! I was literally transfixed. everything was so beautiful and perfect. the entire time I was watching I kept thinking, “how can I get that flexible?”
afterwards one of J’s friends got us into the backstage dancers after-party with...

amazing night
I only wish I could write more about it now. two glasses of wine and three little bits of champagne and I think it is time for bed. more tomorrow, I promise.
