dear Rotterdam,
this is the Rotterdam I wish I had seen in the morning.  I’m sorry I said all those mean things about you.  but you should really cut it out with the rain.  ttyl?

rollerskating in the Netherlands

I went into this neat rollerskating shop in Rotterdam.  I was so excited.  it was more of a skate shop really with longboards and skateboards and rollerblades and stuff but they did have a special section just for quads.  it was thrilling.

I always do some research about the cities I am going to beforehand to see if they have a rollerskating rink that I can skate at.  I couldn’t find anything about a rink but they do have a lot of outdoor night skates in Rotterdam (and Amsterdam, too). *  so I asked the guys running the shop where I could rollerskate.  more specifically, where a roller skating rink was.

rink?  they didn’t know what that was.  I tried to explain the concept to them but they apparently do not have indoor rollerskating on a track like we do in the states.  they have some super crazy indoor ramps and halfpipes for competitions (think Brink! and Lords of Dogtown).  but they mostly just skate outdoors on skate parks.  I sought one out to see for myself.

* one more reason why Amsterdam is the city of my dreams.

I went to see Rem Koolhaas’ Kunsthal museum.  I didn’t go in it because I wasn’t really interested in any of the exhibits they were showing but I did walk around a lot and take a ton of photographs.  it is a gorgeous building.  it is floating above the pavement.
